Goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial secured the holders a place in the next round after the convincing win at Old Trafford.

After a difficult start to the campaign that has led to Jamie Carragher and many other pundits questioning United’s midfield, yesterday’s performance did provide a glimmer of hope for frustrated fans.

Mason Mount returned from injury to bolster the ranks while fellow summer signing Sofyan Amrabat impressed on his full debut.

However, there was one clip from the game that had United followers purring on social media as it went viral.

Palace had possession in their own half, but young guns Hannibal Mejbri and Garnacho, and then Mount, chased a harried for the ball back all the way until back into their own territory until the danger was eventually averted.

And fans soon took to Twitter with joy, as one wrote: “So simple but I love this.

“Hannibal and Garnacho truly bursting themselves to get back to help defensively.”

Another said: “The willingness from Garnacho, Mount & Hannibal.

“Love it & that should be the standard at Manchester Utd.”

“Ah, just like the old days, that’s what we wanna see,” declared another.

While another predicted: “It’s the simple things that we want you to see. A bit of effort goes a long way.

“Even if you aren’t the most talented. These 2 boys are going to the top level.”
