TEMPLEGATE'S TIPS

Horse racing tips: Templegate NAP holds absolute superstar potential and has a rapid turn of foot

TEMPLEGATE tackles Saturday's action confident of winners.

Read on for our man's tips and back a horse at the best price by clicking their odds below.

MISTER SKETCH (3.15 Newbury, nap)

Trainer Eve Johnson Houghton knows what she’s doing when she gets a nice horse and this colt looked classy when zooming in by 10 lengths at Salisbury last time. It may have been just a maiden but he travelled sweetly before showing a sharp turn of foot. His current owners splashed the cash to get him after that and he can repay a slice of his fee here.

SUMMERGHAND (3.35 Ayr, nb)

The veteran has looked better than ever in winning at York before going well from a bad draw in Ireland last time.

PRETTY CRYSTAL (3.00 Ayr, treble)

She went close in Ascot’s Princess Margaret Stakes the last time she tackled this trip. Some juice in the ground suits and she has more to offer.

Templegate's TV verdicts

NEWBURY

1.30

SENSE OF DUTY has much the best form and there’s nobody better than William Haggas to have her fit after 455 days off.

You make big profits backing all runners from the yard who have been off a year or more. She’s already proven at this level.

Raasel looks the main threat given he went close to taking a Goodwood Group 2 in the mud last month.

Nymphadora carries the same silks as the tip and wasn’t disgraced when beaten just over four lengths in the Nunthorpe last time. She’s won in testing conditions and the yard fancy her.

Thunderbear comes over from Ireland where he has gone close in this grade but he needs his very best here.

2.05

NOT SO SLEEPY looks a big price with the booking of Oisin Murphy taking the eye.

He was third in the Cesarewitch last season off this mark and has good form in testing ground. He can go close after six months off.

Valsad landed a cosy win at Southwell latest and should see out this longer distance. He didn’t like heavy ground when he tackled that earlier this year which is a concern.

Oneforthegutter ran a cracker when just pipped in the Mallard at Doncaster last week. This is coming quickly but a repeat of that effort would take Ian Williams’ hope close.

A market move on lightly-raced William Haggas runner Laafi would be interesting on this sharp hike in distance. He could be ahead of the handicapper.

Sea King was poor last time but will prefer this slower ground.

2.40

MUSTAZEED has won on his past two runs over this course and distance, including on heavy ground.

He didn’t get much luck at Sandown last time and his rider’s claim brings him down to his latest winning mark.

Balance Play didn’t enjoy fast ground at York latest and will be happier in these conditions. Trainer Ralph Beckett continues in good form.

Le Mans looks progressive after a good handicap debut win at Salisbury. This is tougher but there’s more to come.

Certain Lad has place claims after coming back to form at Sandown latest. He’s coming down the weights.

Totnes is looking for a hat-trick but is 15lb higher than her first win so will need to find more.

Haggas pair Millebosc and Gaassee both need to step up their game after poor efforts last time.

3.15

MISTER SKETCH drew right away from his rivals when winning by nine lengths at Salisbury last time.

That prompted his current owners to write a large cheque to buy him and trainer Eve Johnson Houghton has been firing in the winners. There’s a lot more to come.

Seven Questions has more experience and was a close second in a Kempton Group 3 two Saturdays ago. He’s won with some cut and will be a big threat.

Array was a place behind him last time but it’s early days and there was only half a length between them.

Matters Most finished ahead of Seven Questions when they met at Ripon last month but his stamina is a slight issue in these conditions.

Haatem is a Group 2 winner over 7f so can’t be ignored given staying could be important.

AYR

1.15

REVICH won this race two years ago and comes here in good form after a close-up third at Chester last time. He handles a bit of cut in the ground and can go well for Hollie Doyle.

Titan Rock ran well at Thirsk latest and is interesting upped to this distance.

Isla Kai enjoyed stepping back to this distance when scoring at Ripon latest. He’s crept back up the weights but should be competitive again.

Koy Koy landed a cosy success at Wolverhampton and trainer George Boughey is in good form. He wouldn’t want the ground too soft but is respected.

Redarna is getting on a bit but battled strongly to score up the Carlisle hill last month. This is tougher but he could nick a place.

Judgment Call is consistent but would prefer seven furlongs.

1.50

PRIDE OF AMERICA has some top-class form including his win in the John Smith’s Cup at York under Frederick Larson.

He followed that Knavesmire success with a close third in hot company at Glorious Goodwood. This trip is ideal and he handles soft ground. He looks the one to beat.

Royal Rhyme enjoyed easy going when winning easily at Goodwood over this trip. He looks ready for this step out of handicap company and can give the selection most to think about.

Noel Meade has a rare British Flat runner with Helvic Dream. His losing run is building up now but he was far from disgraced in a Curragh Group 3 and has every chance of making the frame.

Luckin Brew makes his three-year-old debut and looked a nice prospect when ending last season with a close second in a Pontefract Listed. She may need this comeback but has talent.

2.25

RATHBONE has been in sparkling form and is actually 2lb lower than his gutsy win at Doncaster last week.

He likes this trip, has a handy draw and likes a bit of give in the ground. He’ll go close again under his capable young rider.

Jump The Gun chased the tip home on Town Moor and won’t be far away again.

Aplomb finished strongly when second at Goodwood 18 days ago. That was over this trip and he should go close again from what looks a generous low weight.

Wobwobwob enjoyed dropping to this trip when third in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon. He should run another big race with Hollie Doyle taking over.

Veteran Gulliver ran right up to his best when scoring on the all-weather and is shortlisted along with Call Me Ginger who has won here before.

3.00

Raqiya has done really well so far and had loads in hand when scoring at Haydock last time.

But she’s a very short price considering the ground is slower than she’s tackled and the opposition is stronger.

PRETTY CRYSTAL looks a big danger after she added a decent Goodwood effort to a close second in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot. The ground was soft that day and the form looks solid.

Dorothy Lawrence has loads of ability and ran another belter when just collared in a Salisbury Group 3 last time.

She blasts off from the front and will go close again but may just run out of juice near the line.

Great Generation had plenty in hand when winning at Chester and is another who can take a step forward.

3.35

SUMMERGHAND comes here in fantastic form and has every chance of defending his title.

He’s only 2lb higher than 12 months ago and won at York before another excellent effort from a bad draw at The Curragh last time. He has a much better stall today.

His hold-up style means rider Danny Tudhope will need a little luck but he’s as good as ever aged nine and is a major player.

Orazio has few miles on the clock and would have a huge chance on his early-season form.

He won hot contests at Newmarket and Ascot over this trip with give in the ground.

His sixth in the Wokingham was solid before he ended up stranded on the wing in the Stewards’ Cup. He has what should be a good draw under Jim Crowley.
