And Onana was thrust into the spotlight tonight when he failed to make a routine save against Leroy Sane to kick off the 4-3 defeat at the Allianz Arena.

The former Manchester City star produced a tame shot from outside the box, but Onana failed to deal with it properly and the ball spooned off his hand and into the net.

Speaking to after the game, Onana admitted it was "my worst game", but praised his team-mates for their efforts in almost clawing a result from the game through three second half goals.

Onana said: "It's difficult to lose this way because, in the beginning, we started very good.

"Today was one of my worst games and it's difficult because we have big ambition and it was a big opportunity for us to bounce back.

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag blasted his team's defensive display, saying the lack of consistency in the team's performances were bringing the overall results of the team down.

The Dutchman told : "I'm disappointed. If you score three goals at Bayern you have to take at least a point.

"We are in a period where a lot is going against us. But we have to make our own luck.

"When we don't stick to our rules and principles we concede goals, though we have played great teams in the last three games."

On Onana's start to his Man Utd career, he added: "It's good he's doing that [giving an interview], but it's about the team.

"Mistakes are being made but you need to bounce back as a team.

"We have to believe we can always bounce back...
