Arsenal travelled to Goodison Park on Sunday looking to keep pace with Premier League leaders Man City.

They got off to a flying start when Martinelli tucked the ball home with less than 20 minutes on the clock.

However, VAR had other ideas as it quickly interjected.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah got a touch on the ball during the build-up while running back from Everton's box following a back-pass from Toffees striker Beto.

VAR chiefs took their time as they drew up lines.

And the strike was disallowed due to Nketiah's trailing leg being deemed offside.

But pundit Neville, who had originally declared there was no chance the goal would be ruled out, was left confused.

He couldn't believe there wasn't a better angle showing Nketiah's supposed offside.

And referring to the decision by VAR officials, Neville said: "Looks to me to be a little bit of guesswork I have to say."

Things got worse for Martinelli as he was soon forced off the pitch with an injury.

And Arsenal fans reacted with fury on social media.

One said: "Everton player plays a backpass, Arsenal gets an offside.. there is a full VAR team looking at it, and they can’t see the difference between red and blue. Just insane."

Another declared: "What sort of angle is this? Shocking var decision like always."

One noted: "Goal disallowed not the first time it's happened here due to bad VAR camera positioning. Clearly inside."

Another added: "The goal should have stood..VAR robbed Arsenal again."
