And he was finally awarded the feat by his long-time coach John Kavanagh.

McGregor posted: "Received my black belt tonight from my coach, friend, and mentor, @coach_kavanagh of @sbgireland!

"20 years of hard work! Thank you John for everything over the years, and to all of my team mates throughout this incredible jiu jitsu journey!

McGregor is one of the most iconic MMA fighters of all time, with two UFC belts on his mantelpiece as the company's highest-paid star.

And now with a jiu-jitsu black belt to his name, the Irishman has accomplished his life goals.

He tweeted in 2013: "I just want two gold belts, a jiu-jitsu blackbelt, a hall of fame plaque and 25 million in the bank.

McGregor is not yet a hall of famer but he is a certain to join it when he retires from the sport.

He has plans to fight again, having not done so since July 2021 when he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier, 34.

McGregor, 35, is set to face Michael Chandler, 37, next after the pair coached on The Ultimate Fighter together.

But he has been out of the UFC's all-year round random United States Anti-Doping Agency testing.

And in order to return, he would be required to do six-months of clean USADA testing unless given an exemption, throwing his chances of a fight this year into doubt.

It leaves McGregor's comeback on the ropes but the man himself is hard at work in training regardless.
