Conor McGregor makes exciting prediction for Irish UFC fans as rumours of Dublin event increase

CONOR McGREGOR sounded confident that there'll be a UFC event in Ireland before too long while reacting to Saturday's fight night in Paris.

The Notorious quote-tweeted his reaction after perusing the profits made around gate receipts in the French capital - where two Irish fighters had competed.

He said: "Lovely gate for Europe. Nice collection here, great to see! Well done @UFCEurope team!

"There is money in Europe! Excited for Ireland event!"

While it would be unrealistic to hope for a pay-per-view card to be held here and disrupt the UFC's primary US-based audience, a similar fight night is appearing a more and more feasibly prospect.

There hasn't been a UFC event in Ireland since 2015's 3Arena card which was headlined by Paddy Holohan taking on Louis Smolka.

But back in the here and now, there have been other positive soundings by the next biggest star in Irish MMA - Ian Garry.

The 25-year-old posed in front of the Dublin docklands venue last week while teasing the prospect of him headlining a show in 2024.

He's up to number 11 in the welterweight rankings after his demolition job of wily veteran Neil Magny.

This brought his professional record up to 13-0 with him being the face on tickets seeming to be a natural next step in his development as a rising star.

He and McGregor actually trained together while both happened to be in their hometown over the past few days.

Their inaugural sparring session would have been a great moment for Garry as he's admitted that he got into MMA from watching the former featherweight and lightweight champion.

The Portmarnock native is currently training at Kill Cliff MMA in Florida.

He had previously trained at Team KF in Dublin under Chris Fields and Tom King before a fallout led to his departure from the Swords-based team.

McGregor meanwhile, is maintaining that he will make his long-awaited return before this year is out.

He recently tweeted that he and Michael Chandler will at last throw down in Las Vegas on December 11.

Aimless speculation over when his comeback bout will happen has been rife for months now, with the fight first being mooted all the way back in February.
