Premier League star Joe Worrall honours his hero cop uncle Graham Saville who died saving man from a train

FOOTBALLER Joe Worrall honoured his hero cop uncle at Nottingham Forest's Carabao Cup game after he died saving a man on train tracks.

Sergeant Graham Saville, 46, was assisting the "distressed" 29-year-old man in Nottinghamshire when he was struck by a train.

A minute's applause was held last night at Forest's Carabao Cup match with Burnley at the City Ground.

Worrall, 26, was seen looking heartbroken in the strands during the poignant tribute.

The centre-back is understood to have been left "devastated" by his uncle's death.

The tragedy unfolded last Thursday in Balderton, near Newark Northgate Station.

Sergeant Saville was rushed to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham in a serious condition.

He sadly couldn't be saved and died five days later in hospital.

The man he saved was also taken to hospital with electrocution injuries but is not believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

A  page launched to help raise funds for Sergeant Saville's family has now reached its target of £100,000.

Tributes have continued to flood in for the officer, who had two children with wife Joanne.

One pal wrote: "Truly awful news to hear about our friend Graham Saville. Many good times had with this hero. Rest well mate."

Another added: "There are very few people in the world that deserve the phrase 'couldn't have happened to a nicer person' but you are one of them.

"You were one of the nicest people and paid the ultimate price. RIP and thoughts with your family mate."

Chief Constable Kate Meynell also paid tribute to the "hugely respected and popular colleague" as she called his death a "great shock".

She said: "Today is a day of mourning for the entire police family.

“Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to his family and we will do everything we can to support them through this unimaginably devastating time.

“It is impossible to put into words how devastating this news is for everyone who loved and respected Graham."

Chief Constable Meynall added it was "testament to his bravery and dedication" that Graham was fatally injured while attempting to save another man’s life.

British Transport Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer's death.
