Sad end
Spain's World Cup matchwinner was given heartbreaking news after the final that her father had died.
Olga Carmona scored the only goal of the women's final against England and was later pictured joyfully kissing the trophy.
But hours afterwards the left-back was told of the family tragedy.
There was extra poignancy as she had celebrated scoring by raising her jersey to reveal a tribute to a friend's mother, who had died.
Carmona explained the meaning of the “Merchi” message after the game.
The Spanish FA issued a statement to share their sadness at the death of their goal hero's dad.
Logan reignites row
BBC host Gabby Logan reignited the Mary Earps Nike shirt row after England’s heartbreaking defeat to Spain.
“She will have inspired so many little girls to go out and try and be a keeper in the back garden," Logan said.
“Let's hope that one day they can go and buy her shirts Alex as well. That's the next move."
England legend Alex Scott, who was working as a pundit, then responded: “That's the next step that everyone wants to see.
“She deserves this credit and this accolade. To go from being No 3 to No 1.”

Nike have finally ended their silence over their "hurtful" failure to sell the shirt of hero England keeper Mary Earps.
The kit manufacturer's 104-word statement read: "Nike is committed to women’s football and we’re excited by the passion around this year’s tournament and the incredible win by the Lionesses to make it into the final.
"We are proudly offering the best of Nike innovation and services to our federation partners and hundreds of athletes.
"We hear and understand the desire for a retail version of a goalkeeper jersey and we are working towards solutions for future tournaments, in partnership with Fifa and the federations.
"The fact that there’s a conversation on this topic is testament to the continued passion and energy around the women’s game and we believe that’s encouraging."

Millie Bright has vowed to fight back from the disappointment of losing the Women's World Cup final.

Bronze and the rest of Sarina Wiegman’s team were understandably upset after the heartbreaking defeat.
But Scott wanted the Barcelona full-back to know that she can still hold her head high despite the result.
It’s not on her [Lucy Bronze] that England lost this game today, but we all know her mentality and how much that is going to pain her and it’s not on her. Lucy is an incredible person and incredible player and somebody needs to go and put her arm around her.

Mary Earps reacts
Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live, the England goalkeeper said: "I feel like they had a chance and took it, and we didn't. I felt like we were really in the game. I'm sure we will feel really proud in a couple of weeks but right now it is really raw. Gutting.
"In a couple of weeks, when the emotion has settled down we will probably be able to look back and feel proud - it is no small feat to get to a World Cup final.
"But we are very competitive people, we came here to win the game and get a gold medal, not a silver one.
"At the same time you need to try and be as present as possible. These moments don't come around very often.
"I will probably look back on this as up there as one of my career highlights but right now it just doesn't feel like it."
'We deserve it'
I'm on the air right now, I don't have any words for this moment. It is unbelievable. I'm so proud because we did a great tournament. We suffered but also we enjoy it and we deserve it."
Aitana BonmatiSarina Wiegman reacts
Speaking to BBC Sport, the England boss said: "I think everyone has seen an incredible game, very open game, both teams who want to play football.
"Two different halves for us. In the first half we really struggled to have a press on the ball.
"We changed it in the second half back to 4-3-3 and I think we got momentum then. But then the energy went out of the game with the penalty and the injury to Alex [Greenwood].
"After all Spain were just a little bit better than we were today and they had a great tournament so congrats for Spain.
"Of course it feels really bad now, very very disappointing. You go into the final and you want to give everything and then you lose it.
"That happens in sports too but what we have done, how we have shown ourselves, who we are, how we want to play as a team, overcoming so many challenges, I think we can be so proud of ourselves now although it doesn't feel like it at the moment."
Heartbreak for the Lionesses

Millie Bright reacts
Speaking to BBC Sport at full-time, the England captain said: "This is really hard to take. We gave it everything.
"In the first half we weren't at our best, we bounced back in the second half. We had chances, hit the bar but we just didn’t have the final edge and they got theirs in back of the net."
She added: "A massive amount of pride. The girls were unbelievable. We had a lot of critics, a few lost belief in us but we never stopped believing.
"Sometimes football goes for you, sometimes against you. We played in a World Cup final. In a few weeks we will appreciate this day, but we want to be winners."
