Why are the PFA awards in August this year?

The PFA awards have primarily taken place in April over the years but this year's ceremony will be on Tuesday, August 29.

It's down to many reasons including the fact that the domestic season for the men's game was extended due to the winter World Cup in Qatar.

Manchester City's Treble winning campaign didn't end until June 1st following their Champions League final with Inter Milan.

Many Premier League stars were also included in squads for European qualifiers, which took place in late June.

The Women's World Cup is also a huge factor as many nominees for awards have been involved in the tournament such as Lauren James and Sam Kerr.

Just nine days after England take on Spain in the Women's World Cup final the awards ceremony is due to take place.

The later date ultimately gives all members and nominees the best opportunity to attend the event at the Lowry Theatre.
