Former England boss Roy Hodgson is eager for a new job with a club or national side
After the humiliation of being dumped out of Euro 2016 by Iceland Roy Hodgson wants to return to management
ROY HODGSON is on the lookout for a new job five months after quitting as England boss after they were dumped out of Euro 2016 by Iceland.
The 69 year old does not want the England job to be his last in a career that has spanned over 40 years since his first appointment at Swedish club Halmstad.
Speaking toHodgson believes the foundations have been laid for an era of success under new manager Gareth Southgate who was in charge of the under-21 side whilst Hodgson led the senior team.
The former England manager said:
“I’d like to come back – I feel as good as I have ever done. Age has never been a factor. I feel fit.
“I think you become a better coach – if wisdom is a word which is at all relevant in football, I would like to think it is, you do become a bit wiser with the years.
“You perhaps make a few less mistakes dealing with players than you would have made when you were young,
thought you knew it all and thought that you were invincible.
“I certainly don’t feel that I couldn’t handle the day-to-day work and the day-to-day pressures.
“I just have to wait and see what comes along. I’ve not been in any particular rush I must say. I’ve never had a long spell out of the game, it’s always been a month or two and then back in again and sometimes not even that.
“So these four or five months won’t do me any harm. But I’m hoping that something will come along that will really interest me and the people who are inviting me perhaps to join them are aware of what they’ve getting and they’re getting what they want.”
“I’m not in a rush but these four, five months won’t do me any harm.”
Hodgson’s last job at club level was with West Brom before he took over the England job in 2012, prior to managing at the Hawthorns, Hodgson managed Liverpool where he only lasted six months at Anfield.
Before replacing Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, Hodgson took Fulham all the way to the Europa League final only to lose to Atletico Madrid 2-1 in 2010.
Clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League and the top half of the Championship will be of certain interest to Hodgson.
Managers at struggling clubs will certainly be looking over their shoulder now the former Inter Milan and Liverpool manager has made himself available.
