Newcastle set to land fifth summer signing after raiding AC Milan again for highly-rated teen defender Cathal Heffernan

NEWCASTLE UNITED are reportedly set to raid AC Milan again for their fifth summer signing.

The 23-year-old midfielder left the San Siro to become Eddie Howe’s first major summer signing ahead of the North East club’s return to the Champions League.

Winger Harvey Barnes soon followed him through the door as he joined from Leicester City in a £38m deal.

Newcastle then completed the signing of Tino Livramento from Southampton.

The 20-year-old full-back cost £30m - with 18-year-old Gambian starlet Yankuba Minteh also joining from Danish club OB Odense for £6m only to be loaned straight to Feyenoord.

A deal has allegedly already been completed for Heffernan to join Newcastle after he shone in two pre-season friendlies for the Magpies.

It remains to be seen whether he links up with Howe’s first-team squad, although it is widely-expected that he will initially be part of the club’s U21 set-up.

And Tonali and Heffernan are not the only men to head to Newcastle from Milan.

Coach Andrea Romeo also left the San Siro setup to join the Magpies as part of Howe’s backroom team.
