The Hammers had been interested in Ward-Prowse, 28, earlier in the window but initially struggled to agree on terms with the South Coast outfit.

Now there is an agreement for the Saints star to make a move to London for a fee of £30m.

It is expected that the midfielder will sign a four-year contract with the London outfit.

Having risen through the ranks at Southampton, Ward-Prowse has been ever-present in the team.

He has made 422 appearances in all competitions for the club scoring 55 goals and assisting 55 more.

David Moyes' side have been in the market for midfielders following the £105m exit of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

The club has also lost midfielders Manuel Lanzini and Nikola Vlašić this summer.

West Ham had seen a £20m bid for Ward-Prowse rejected earlier in the window with Southampton holding out for £40m.
