Chelsea ‘submit £17m transfer bid for Santos wonderkid with personal terms already agreed’.. but he’ll head out on loan
CHELSEA could be close to landing Brazilian whizkid Deivid Washington.
The Blues have reportedly agreed personal terms over a £17million switch from Santos – with the 18-year-old expected to be instantly loaned out to Strasbourg.
Transfer guru claims a deal is “imminent” with an “official bid submitted”.
Former Gremio schoolboy Washington is said to be keen on the move.
And Brazilian TV station Globo reckon the fee will be 20m euros – £17m.
The transfer shows news Chelsea chief Mauricio Pochettino is already planning for the future as much as the present.
Washington is under contract at Santos until April 2026.
His first senior goal arrived in a 3-0 home win over Bahia in the Brazilian top-flight on May 10 this year.
But Chelsea’s swoop comes as major summer recruit Christopher Nkunku suffered an injury blow.
The £52m France attacker hobbled off in Thursday’s 1-1 warm-up game with Borussia Dortmund.
The reckon the ex-RB Leipzig hero, 25, could now miss the Premier League kick-off next weekend.
Meanwhile, Pochettino has urged Blues’ owner Todd Boehly to give him time to turn his new-look squad into champions.
The former Spurs manager said: “You can’t win if you don’t build, but bring names and players.
“There are maybe some exceptions, but all of the clubs that win have won after very good years working hard and being consistent, making a plan to try to win.
“Manchester City or Liverpool, they lose semi-finals or finals and they keep going, giving the coaching staff the possibility to work for the pre-season.”
