The unnamed William Hill punter placed a fiver on 12 pre-season clashes over the weekend at seismic odds of 4,891/1.

But, as you can imagine, it was far from straightforward.

Atalanta, Rotherham, Blackpool, Accrington and FC Volendam won easily enough, but SEVEN were decided by one-goal margins.

A swathe of strikes between the 70th and 80th minutes for Newry, Union Berlin, Doncaster and Huddersfield inched the unlikely bet closer to the winning line.

But some late magic was still required with Coventry and Everton still drawing.

Ben Sheaf duly obliged with a 94th-minute winner against Exeter, before Everton's Onana popped up to fire home after Stoke failed to clear a corner in the last kick of the game.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: "Pre-season friendlies are famously difficult to predict, but it will be hard to find another football bet this campaign to top this 12-fold off-season win.

"The final stages of the Stoke City versus Everton match must have been nerve-wrecking as the other results had come in.

"Amadou Onana’s winner with almost the last kick of the game saw one of our punters net a cool £25k pay-out from just a £5 stake."
