David Luiz shrugs off Sergio Aguero lunge that resulted in red card during Chelsea win over Manchester City as ‘quite normal frustration’
DAVID LUIZ has swept his clash with Sergio Aguero under the carpet – saying the tackle was borne of frustration.
However, the Manchester City striker is now facing a four-game ban after his straight red in the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, while Luiz was lucky to come out of the challenge without being seriously injured.
Luiz said of the incident: ”Aguero is an amazing player, he scores a lot, he wins a lot.
“It is better when you talk about Aguero to talk about good things rather than bad things.
”It is quite normal frustration when you don’t win the game and I don’t like to speak about negative things. It is normal in football – when you win you be happy, when you lose you be sad.”
Both sides could now face extra disciplinary action from the FA as they failed to control their players in the reaction to the tackle.
There did seem to be real intent with the tackle Aguero made and it’s hard to see that it wasn’t intentional when you look back a the pair’s previous.
Rewind to the FA Cup Semi-final at Wembley in 2013 when Aguero made a two footed stamp on Luiz with the City striker escaping further punishment.
Aguero may point to an earlier incident in yesterday’s match when Luiz made a blatant block to obstruct the on running former Atletico man from being one on one with the keeper.
Taylor waved the incident away but with the obstruction being made outside the box and Luiz being the last man the punishment would have seen the 29-year-old sent off.
Pep Guardiola was bemoaning his sides misfortune of not getting the rub of the green as far as vital decisions in the game were concerned.
Guardiola did indeed apologise for what happened at the end of the game inside the Etihad, although this will be another learning curve for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss – the Premier League is nothing like La Liga or the Bundesliga.
But the City boss can have no argument about the two red cards that came for Aguero and Fernandinho, who grabbed and threw Cesc Fabregas by the throat over the advertising boards during the fracas that followed the knee high hack on Luiz.
Chelsea had made a second half comeback to blitz Manchester City on the counter and win the game, although referee Anthony Taylor made decisions that left the home side frustrated.
Kevin De Bruyne missed a glorious chance to put City 2-0 up, missing a gaping open goal and rattling the cross bar.
Moments later Chelsea unleashed a stunning counter-attack after another City chance to equalise through Diego Costa – Eden Hazard sealed the win late on.
