TOON GLOOM

Newcastle slapped with huge £40m price tag for former Chelsea wonderkid transfer with Blues due massive sell-on clause

NEWCASTLE have been told that it will cost over £40million to land Southampton's Tino Livramento.

Saints rejected Toon's bid in the region of £30m for the full-back who they bought from Chelsea for £4m in 2021, with the Blues due a hefty sell-on fee.

Livramento, 20, started yesterday's friendly against Reading as negotiations continue.

Southampton have knocked back a number of enquiries this summer and are determined to keep hold of the England Under-21 defender.

And new Stamford Bridge chief Mauricio Pochettino is also said to hold an interest in the England Under-21 star.

Pochettino is busy undertaking one of the biggest summer shake-ups seen at Chelsea for many a summer.

And if the Blues did attempt to hijack Newcastle's pursuit of Livramento, it's thought they could loan the Londoner back to Southampton.

However, the Toon are regarded as his main suitors.

Boss Eddie Howe fancies the starlet to compete with 32-year-old Kieran Trippier on the right of defence.

That would also allow Spaniard Javier Manquillo to leave permanently.
