Harry Maguire ‘angry and shocked’ over Man Utd captaincy axe and is ready to QUIT as Chelsea consider stunning transfer
FURIOUS Harry Maguire is ready to quit Manchester United after being stripped of the captain’s armband.
SunSport understands the defender was ‘angry, shocked and upset’ when boss Erik ten Hag told him at the training ground yesterday.
Maguire, 30, knows his time at Old Trafford is over with West Ham, Tottenham and Newcastle keen, while Chelsea are also considering entering the race.
The £85million buy, who did not mention Ten Hag in his social media post, wrote: “After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain.
“He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.
“So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband.

“Since the day I took on the role, three and a half years ago, it’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date.
“It’s one of the greatest honours in club football.
“I’ve done everything I possibly could to help United be successful — on and off the field.
“I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for first giving me the responsibility and I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support.”

SunSport revealed eight days ago Maguire was set to have the captaincy taken away — with Bruno Fernandes likely to get the role ahead of Casemiro.
The England defender joined from Leicester in 2019 but lost his place under Ten Hag last term.
Half of the Premier League clubs tried to sign him on loan in January and, while United have set an ambitious asking price of £50m, it is likely to drop towards £30m.
As well as Prem interest, Inter Milan and Saudi clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal also need centre-backs.
Maguire has two years left on his £200,000-a-week United contract.
