DAVID GOODWILLIE has returned to Scottish football after being spotted playing for a NINTH tier club this evening.

The striker has been without a team since he was axed by Australian outfit Sorrento FC last month, just hours after being confirmed as their latest signing.

The semi-pro club announced a few weeks ago that they had landed the forward before dramatically rescinding the player's contract later that same night.

Goodwillie, 34, was ruled to be a rapist in a civil court case in 2017.

The former Scotland international was ordered to pay £100,000 in damages by a judge over the incident in West Lothian six years earlier.

He maintained his innocence and no criminal charges were brought against him.

Goodwillie's high-profile move to Raith Rovers in January last year sparked a huge backlash and he eventually had his contract ripped up before even kicking a ball for the club.

Clyde then re-signed him on loan but they ended up performing a U-turn too and terminated that deal after receiving severe criticism.

He has since been on the hunt for a new team but has struggled to land his next move.

Goodwillie subsequently appeared as a trialist for non-league side Livingston United before moving to English club Radcliffe FC.

But he is now back in Scotland and is hoping to start his new chapter in the lower leagues.

The former Dundee United, Aberdeen and Blackburn striker featured for West of Scotland Third Division side Glasgow United in their friendly against Pollok tonight.

Goodwillie was named in the ninth tier's team-sheet for the pre-season clash against the Premier Division club, who sit three leagues above in the Scottish pyramid.

Glasgow United were relegated from the eighth tier last season after finishing bottom of the table.

The club have yet to confirm whether they have signed Goodwillie and it's currently unclear if he's been offered a contract or if it's just a trial.
