Elina Svitolina was born in Odessa, Ukraine on September 12, 1994, and is the daughter of former wrestler Mikhaylo Svitolin and professional rower Olena Svitolina.

Elina had her first taste of Wimbledon in 2012 when she reached the final of the girls' singles, but lost to Eugenie Bouchard.
