Everton owner Farhad Moshiri looks to bring mega-rich fan onto cash-strapped Toffees’ board

OWNER Farhad Moshiri plans to bring mega-rich fan George Downing on to the board at Everton.

Swiss-based property magnate Downing was thought of as a possible new chairman when Bill Kenwright’s future was in doubt.

But Moshiri confirmed last week that the Toffees’ long-serving chief was staying on following a personal request.

He said: “I wanted Bill to remain as our chairman during this important period of transition for the club.

“And I am delighted that he has accepted my request to do so.

“Bill’s knowledge and vast experience will be crucial for us as we look to reset, deliver on external investment and position Everton for a successful future.”

At the same time, Moshiri confirmed Colin Chong as interim CEO and director, while also revealing other appointments.

James Maryniak is now interim CFO, while John Spellman has been appointed a non-executive director.

Moshiri added: “In John, we have an experienced finance professional who has held chief executive and senior finance roles for international firms and I welcome him to the club.

“In Colin and James, we have two experienced senior club professionals who have agreed to take on enhanced roles in an interim basis, and who we know can and will deliver immediately.”

It’s certainly set to be a summer of change on the pitch for Everton too.

Yerry Mina, Tom Davies, Andros Townsend and Asmir Begovic have all left as free transfer agents.

And loanees Ruben Vinagre and Conor Coady returned to their parent clubs, with the latter since sealing a move to Leicester.

Sean Dyche is yet to make any signings of his own.

But he is hopeful of signing ex-Arsenal man Ainsley Maitland-Niles on a free.

And the Toffees boss also fancies Willy Gnonto from relegated Leeds.
