Spain vs Italy betting tips

More football?!

Club competition is done and dusted for the 2022-23 campaign, and it's the turn of the UEFA Nations League to take centre stage.

Both teams qualified for the last four by taking 11 points from their six group matches, and will have their sights set on progressing to Sunday's final at the same venue.

Though only in its third renewal, both nations have been here before. In fact, Spain ended Italy's world-record 37-game unbeaten run when the teams met in the last four of the 2021 Nations League finals.

Spain eventually lost the final to France, but will fancy their chances against either the Netherlands or Croatia if they can navigate Italy on Thursday.

Unpredictable as ever, Italy followed their failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup by topping a group containing Germany, England and Hungary to reach their second straight Nations League finals.

And the winner is...

The form of both these sides are questionable at best.

Luis de la Fuente is still in the infancy of his tenure as Spain boss with this just his third match since replacing Luis Enrique.

Things got off to a flyer when brushing Norway aside, but that was swiftly followed by a 2-0 defeat to Scotland and a big reaction will be required.

Italy, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back defeats to Austria and England before labouring to a 2-0 victory over Malta back in March.

There's very little to separate these heavyweights, who haven't kicked a ball together in 80 days. Spain have scored in 25 of their last 27 matches, while Italy have scored in eight of their last 10.

Don't expect goals…

A goal frenzy doesn't look likely on neutral turf.

Six of the last eight meetings between the pair have yielded under 2.5 goals. Six of the last eight have also failed to see a goal registered in the opening 45 minutes.

As mentioned, the teams haven't played together in a couple of months and the pressure could be high given a place in the grand final is up for grabs.

  • Our tip:

Oh Dani boy…

There's no Pedri, Ferran Torres or Mikel Oyarzabal available for manager De La Fuente this week, and that leaves goalscorer in rather short supply.

Alvaro Morata is expected to spearhead the attack and will look to add to his 30 goals in 62 appearances for Spain.

However, he was left on the bench for Spain's last clash with Scotland and blanked in his two previous international clashes before that.

Winger Dani Olmo could therefore offer some excellent value at 6/1 to be Spain's first goalscorer ahead of the likes of Morata, Joselu, Rodrigo and Asensio.
