Watch hilarious moment cyclist accidentally joins the Giro d’Italia as fans go wild

FANS went wild after an ordinary cyclist accidentally joined the Giro d'Italia route.

The legendary cycling tournament is in full swing and sees some of the world's best riders go head-to-head in a test of speed and endurance.

Fans have been watching events closely as they look to see who will come out on top on May 28.

But they were provided with a welcome distraction from all the intense competition when a normal cyclist accidentally got involved.

Video footage from shows the hilarious moment a woman stumbled on to the Giro d'Italia route.

Crowds gathered on the sides of the road would have expected the likes of Geraint Thomas to fly past.

But instead the embarrassed lady was greeted by cheering onlookers as she suddenly emerged.

The woman can be seen grinning as she goes past the enthusiastic admirers at a leisurely pace.

She then wipes her face with a cloth after managing to escape her new fan base.

The cyclist would have some work to do to catch up with the Giro d'Italia leaders who are actually competing.

Welshman Thomas reclaimed the overall race lead this afternoon from Joao Almeida.

The event has so far been marred by dreadful weather and some awful crashes.

Brit cyclist Tao Geoghegan Hart was taken to hospital after being caught in an accident at stage 11 last week.
