Football Association let off Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana after strip club visit

Despite the Liverpool duo visiting For Your Eyes Only in Bournemouth just 48 hours before their recent match against Spain, they will receive no punishment

FA chiefs have bottled it, leaving Gareth Southgate to punish Wayne Rooney and strip-club revellers Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana.

Southgate was interviewed for the England manager’s job and is likely to be appointed later this week.

He will then play a major role in a review of his stars’ recent antics, amid FA claims Rooney was NOT forced to say sorry for his boozing session that lasted until 5am on the players’ night off following victory over Scotland. Instead, the public apology is understood to have come from Rooney’s own side.

Wembley sources insist any punishment dished out to Henderson and Lallana for their visit to a Bournemouth lap-dancing club the same night will be down to the new Three Lions boss.

Southgate, rather than FA chairman Greg Clarke and chief executive Martin Glenn, will play the leading role in the review of player behaviour that night.

The FA’s code of conduct states: “Players representing England are ambassadors for their country and role models for younger players. The highest standards of conduct and behaviour are expected at all times.”

Clarke and Glenn could have imposed sanctions from the code. Instead they have shown it to be worthless by passing the buck to the new manager.

Southgate, 46, was interviewed by a five-man FA panel — even though he is the only candidate to succeed Sam Allardyce.

The three-hour session was said to have passed off with “no dramas”.

Southgate is yet to talk to the FA about his salary on the 3½-year deal being prepared, although it is expected to be between £1-1.5million.

Jurgen Klinsmann, who had been touted for the Three Lions job, was axed by the USA on Monday night.
