NOT AGAIN

Protesters target Scottish Grand National as animal activists stopped by police

PROTESTERS tried to disrupt the Scottish Grand National this afternoon at Ayr.

It was reminiscent of the incident at last Saturday's Grand National at Aintree - but the authorities were ready and were able to minimise the disruption.

Police were spotted moving the protesters on - with the race taking off at the correct time as the protesters were removed from the racecourse.

Organisers of the event said they were "confident" that the event would not have been disrupted by activists.

Jim Delahunt was also sure there would be no chaos today and said there were no signs of protests.

He said: "We're as confident as we can be. We have taken great precautions and have had no intelligence whatsoever of any planned protest.

"The Aintree one was flagged up for 10 days in our industry.

"If there was to be a protest, we may have heard a whisper. But the police presence will be increased."

Twitter account Animal Welfare Watch said: "Well done again Animal Rising for attempting to protest the Scottish Grand National 👏
