And his father, Carlos, recently revealed that his son would be seeking pastures new in the coming months.

He said: “Normally, the upcoming transfer market will find him playing for another club, we don't know which one yet as the talks are starting.

That was extended by a further 12 months in October, meaning he is under contract until June 2025.

Brighton also have the option of adding an additional year, meaning that they remain in a strong bargaining position if they sell.

Mac Allister has registered 26 goal contributions in 101 games for the Seagulls - including 10 goals and two assists this term.

Mac Allister also played an integral part in Argentina's World Cup triumph, helping his country to lift the trophy for the first time since 1986.

Following a 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their tournament opener, Mac Allister was brought into the side as Argentina won six games in a row on their way to glory in Qatar.
