Laois GAA mourning tragic death of teenage star David Brown after quad bike accident

LAOIS GAA is mourning the tragic passing of a teen dual star after he lost his life in a quad bike accident on Easter Sunday.

15-year-old David Brown tragically passed away at approximately 2pm in a wooded area near the village of Emo.

Gardai and emergency services were quickly called to the scene but he had suffered fatal injuries.

An investigation into the full circumstances of the accident is now underway.

On Monday morning, David's heartbroken club Portlaoise paid tribute to 'one of our best and brightest' in a statement.

It read: "We are heartbroken beyond words. David was one of our very best and brightest.

"In football and in hurling. For club and for county.

"Vibrant, fearless, skilful, determined, proud - a shining star on every team he played for.

"Brilliant attitude and manners, always respectful to his coaches and his teammates, always willing to listen and to learn.

"Already a hero in the eyes of so many of our youngest, David was a cast iron prospect for the future of our senior teams.

LIFE CUT SHORT

David had only lined out for his county on Saturday in the Celtic Challenge hurling competition.

The third-year Portlaoise CBS student had also been part of Laois' minor panel on Friday for a fixture against Antrim.

He came from a very well-known sporting family with his older brother Conor a part of Laois' senior inter-county football panel.

Aside from Conor, he is survived by his parents James and Carmel as well as his sister Sarah.
