Jason Steele on Scotland radar as Steve Clarke ponders calling up ANOTHER former England youth goalkeeper

SCOTLAND boss Steve Clarke is monitoring another former England Under-21 star following the capture of Angus Gunn.

Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele, who was born in County Durham, qualifies through the grandparent rule and could be persuaded to switch allegiance.

Clarke is believed to be seriously considering an approach to the 32-year-old, and is aiming to make him the second former Three Lions keeper to commit to the Scots after Gunn.

The Norwich No1 — who played 12 games for England’s Under-21s — was given a call-up for the Euro 2024 qualifying double header and handed a debut against Cyprus.

And talks with Steele could now be set up in the coming weeks.
Steele, who recently ousted Spanish cap Robert Sanchez as first choice for Brighton, has represented England at age group level before earning seven Under-21 caps between 2010-13.

The goalie boasts over 260 appearances in the Championship and Premier League.

Meanwhile, SunSport columnist reckons a small section of the Tartan Army LET themselves down again by booing Ryan Jack.

He says: "The Scotland midfielder was targeted simply because he plays for Rangers, which I find mind-boggling.

"I do get that there are Aberdeen fans still disappointed at him leaving for Ibrox, even though that was six years ago.

"I also get there will be Scotland supporters who aren't too fond of Rangers either. But I just don't get what club allegiances have got to do with supporting your country.

"My message to the minority jeering is get over yourself.

"How is booing one of your own players, one who never lets you down, going to benefit the team?

"Jack hasn't played as often as he'd have liked over the past few years due to injury and he also missed the Euros."
