Carl Froch vs Gennady Golovkin: Cobra considers ending retirement to face GGG in what would be first fight since 2014
CARL FROCH is considering coming out of retirement to fight boxing superstar Gennady Golovkin.
The Cobra, 39, has not fought since smashing George Groves in 2014.
But the revelation comes from promoter Eddie Hearn, who met Golovkin’s manager Tom Loeffler at the weekend.
Hearn said: “Tom was joking really but Carl texted me and said, ‘What weight would Golovkin fight me at?’ I said, ‘172lb’ and Loeffler said, ‘170’.
“Carl has got wound up. I know exactly what Loeffler is trying to do and that is entice him out.
“I’m not sure I want to see him fight again — but he is such a competitor.
“That would have been one of the great fights — and it might still be.”
Hearn and Loeffler worked together to promote the 34-year-old Golovkin’s British debut, when he beat Kell Brook at the O2 in September.
And Loeffler uploaded a snap on Twitter of him and Hearn from Monte Carlo with a cheeky caption about tempting Froch out of retirement.
The pair have in the past discussed a possible clash, but were unable to reach a deal before Froch officially hung up his gloves in 2015.
Hearn said of the IBF, WBC and WBA middleweight champ: “Golovkin is going to fight in March, June in Kazakhstan and then he wants to box in England in November.
“Could it be Froch? He’s fit enough, isn’t he.”
