Leigh Griffiths’ cut-price house sale explained as ex-Celtic star flogs luxury pad after neighbour hit in gangland war

EX-CELTIC ace Leigh Griffiths sold his mansion after his neighbour was repeatedly targeted in a gangland war, a source has revealed.

He upped sticks after becoming unsettled by arson attacks on the house next door — one of which scorched his wall.

It sold for £575,000 after initially being on the market at £675,000.

Griffiths is now in Australia with dental nurse partner Caitlyn for a season-long spell with Mandurah City after failing to secure a team in Scotland.

But he must return home by September to face court claims he kicked a flare into away fans while playing for Dundee.

The footballer, 32, also remains under investigation by police who raided the house last year amid suspicious betting patterns during one of his matches.

A source said: “Leigh and Caitlyn were constantly on edge.

“They had cameras and security but that kind of gangster hassle on your doorstep makes you feel unsafe in your own home no matter what you do.”

Another insider said: “Leigh has nothing to do with this feud and had his kids visiting the pad — so it put everyone on edge.

“Every car they’ve had in their drive next door has been petrol bombed.

Dad-of-five Leigh and Caitlyn bought the four-bed home, with cinema room, in Bothwell, Lanarkshire for £500,000 in 2020.

But months later, Caitlyn fled after a Range Rover owned by neighbour Jennifer McLeish, 36, was torched.

The flames spread across the wall to their pad.

Griffiths was away on Scotland duty at the time.

The feud between the partner of Jennifer — the daughter of railway maintenance tycoon Alan McLeish - and underworld hood David “Mincey” McKenzie has ramped up recently.

In January a maniac drove a motor to their front gate before setting it ablaze and fleeing.

Jennifer’s beauty salon has been ram-raided and graffiti has been daubed on walls targeting both sides of the feud.

A source added: “Leigh has kids and legal issues to be resolved so we’ve not seen the last of him.”
