EFL Cup to be renamed after three-year sponsorship deal struck with energy drink Carabao

Thai brand's bright green ribbons will go on the trophy and the match ball as well as having signage at every ground - taking over from Capital One

THE EFL Cup will be renamed the Carabao Cup from the start of next season after a new three-year sponsorship deal was agreed.

The Football League have struck a deal with the Thai energy drinks brand, which will see the tournament re-branded with the company’s bright green colours on ribbons of the trophy and the match ball.

Carabao branding will also feature in stadiums at every match, including at Wembley on “Carabao Cup” final day.

The competition has been without a sponsor since the deal with credit card service company Capital One ended at the end of last season – a trophy which was one by Manchester City.
Shaun Harvey, EFL Chief Executive, said: “This is a significant agreement for both parties and I’m delighted to welcome Carabao on board as an official title sponsor of the EFL Cup.

This year’s sponsor-less competition is into the quarter-final stage, with Hull City, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds United, Arsenal, Southampton, Manchester United and West Ham all still in the draw.
