  • 13 Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Tempo is quite slow so far in the derby, the game needs a spark to take off.

But United are doing so well with their high pressing, Fernandes' chance almost provided that much needed fire

  • 10 Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Chance!

United steal the ball at the back and Fernandes tries a shot from the right but just misses Ederson's bottom right corner.

The hostsare pressing high on the pitch and it's paying dividends as City are struggling to play out the back.

  • 8 Man Utd 0-0 Man City

City are dominating possession and tempo in the opening few minutes.

De Bruyne is very impressive in midfield, mainly operating on the right side

  • 5 Man Utd 0-0 Man City

The two teams are testing the waters in the first five minutes of the match.

Bit of sloppy start from City with some careless passes by Ederson at the back and Akanji in midfield.

But the visitors have drastically improved their passing

  • 2 Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Another quick reminder:

Manchester City manager Pep Guaridola has opted for his usual 4-3-3 formation against Manchester United.

Ederson starts in goal with Kyle Walker at right-back and Joao Cancelo on the other side, while Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake team up at centre-back.

Bernardo Silva, Rodri and captain Kevin de Bruyne link up in midfield.

Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Erling Haaland lead the attack

  • 1 Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Just a quick reminder:

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag appears to have opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation against Manchester City.

David de Gea starts in goal with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back and Tyrell Malacia on the other side, while Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw team up at centre-back.

Ten Hag prefers Shaw at the back once more instead of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez, who is still not ready after the 2022 World Cup.

Fred and Casemiro link up in midfield with Christian Eriksen at No10.

Captain Bruno Fernandes covers the right flank with Marcus Rashford on the other side, while Anthony Martial spearheads the attack

  • Pep Guardiola milestone

This is Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola's 500th top-flight match as a manager.

Guardiola's 76 per cent win rate is the best out of any manager in Europe's top five leagues to have taken charge of 100 or more games.

The Spanish tactician should be feeling confident today as he has won six Manchester derbies at Old Trafford.

That is twice as many as the ex-Barcelona boss has won at the Etihad

  • Erling Haaland's dominance

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has been impressive this season.

But no one has been better than Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.

Haaland is the Premier League's top scorer with a staggering 21 goals in 16 appearances.

The star striker needs only two more goals to tie the Golden Boot tally from the previous three seasons

  • Marcus Rashford's time

Marcus Rashford has picked up the mantle after Cristiano Ronaldo's dramatic exit from the club.

Rashford has scored in all six of United's fixtures since returning from the 2022 World Cup.

The forward has amassed a total of 15 goals and six assists in 25 matches across all competitions.

However, the England international hasn't scored in any of his last five appearances against Manchester City and only managed one shot on target in total

  • Rashford vs Haaland

Cristiano Ronaldo is gone from Manchester United but Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland is still facing some interesting competition from Marcus Rashford.

Rashford is way behind Premier League top scorer Haaland on goals but is ahead on passes, touches and tackles.

The two forwards also have the same amount of assists so far in the league.

  • Patrice Evra prediction

Manchester United legend Patrice Evra shared his prediction ahead of the Manchester derby.

Evra told : "This match is a tough one to predict. Riyad Mahrez is on fire for [Manchester] City at the moment and could play a big part. It's a derby so I'm not expecting a big score.

"I can see it being 2-1 to United, but equally it wouldn't be surprising to see City win, it could go either way. It can't be like the last derby. United have to learn from that experience.

"I remember when we lost 6-1 at Old Trafford to City. If I have to find an excuse we had a red card and we had to play with 10 men. Afterwards, we said to ourselves, 'this can't happen again' and it didn't.

"If the same players, in the same team, in the same season get slapped again then it means they are terrified of City and they are traumatised after playing against them"

  • Man City stats

Manchester City are second in the Premier League table with five points separating them from table toppers Arsenal.

City should feel confident as they have won three successive away matches in the league.

Pep Guardiola's men have also scored 45 goals in all of their 17 Prem matches, which is the highest return out of anyone else in the top flight.

But the defending champions will need star man Kevin de Bruyne on a good day as he has failed to score or assist in any of his last five Premier League appearances.

That is De Bruyne's longest such run since a 10-match streak between 2018 and 2019

  • Man Utd stats

Manchester United have won eight games in a row across all competitions and are fourth in the Premier League with the same points as the third-placed Newcastle.

United are the only team to have won all Prem matches they have led in this season, doing so 11 times.

The Red Devils have also earned nine consecutive home victories across all competitions for the first time since December 2017.

That streak was ended by a 2-1 Premier League loss against today's opponents Manchester City

  • Head to Head

The first ever Manchester derby took place way back in 1949 when Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Since then, the two rivals have faced off a total of 129 times with United winning a majority of 55 matches, compared to City’s 41 victories.

The Red Devils haven’t beaten their local foes at Old Trafford since 2020 when they won 2-0 in the Premier League – their most recent win took place in 2021 when they won with the same score at the Etihad.

In fact, United have lost their last three league meetings with City - a fourth in a row would equal the club’s Premier League record for defeats against the same opponent, set against Liverpool in 2002 and their Manchester rivals in 2014.

Erik ten Hag’s men also face the prospect of going four successive home games without scoring against City for just the second time after 1914.

City should be feeling confident as their 6-3 Premier League win against United in October set a record for most goals in this fixture

  • Good afternoon from Manchester

Hello everybody! Kostas here, and welcome to SunSport’s live blog coverage of the Premier League clash between rivals Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford.

This is a crucial Manchester derby as City are chasing after table toppers Arsenal and United are looking to cement their place in the top four as they are tied with third-placed Newcastle.

The Red Devils’ manager Erik ten Hag may be without Anthony Martial due to a leg issue, while Diogo Dalot is also out with a hamstring injury.

Donny van de Beek has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a knee injury and going under the knife, while Axel Tuanzebe is still sidelined.

United have completed the loan signing of Burnley striker Wout Weghorst until the end of the season but he will not be eligible to play because he would have needed to be registered by 12pm on Friday.

City boss Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, will be without John Stones for the derby.

A lot will be determined by the two rivals’ attacking powerhouses Marcus Rashford and Erling Haaland.

United’s Rashford and City’s Haaland have been on a roll and the respective defences will have their work cut out today
