And as viewers took to social media to discuss the match, many pulled out some clever puns.

One fan said: "Definitely a sting in the tail there."

A second said: "Keep buzzing."

"No coincidence that as soon as the wasp showed up, Cameron started playing well. I reckon it was controlling him like Ratatouille," one fan suggested.

The incredible game saw rival Richard Edhouse miss six match darts after going 2-0 ahead on sets and a 2-0 lead in the third set.

This gave Canadian Cameron the opening he needed to pull off a remarkable comeback.

After his third set victory, Cameron reeled off wins in six legs in a row to help clinch a remarkable victory to set up a second-round affair with Danny Noppert on Friday.

And the sting in his play would be explained by the unlikely visitor he had on his shoulder throughout the tie, although he insisted he had no idea it was there.

He said: "Sometimes you feel down and out, but you know what I just stuck with it.

"It might be lucky (the wasp) or something, but I didn't even know it was there!

"The support at home is amazing, I had so many messages."

The Ally Pally has already seen the likes of Lewis Capaldi make crude comments regarding how much fun he had after nailing the nine dart challenge.
