  • Good morning football fans

The Carabao Cup quarter-final draw has been completed after an entertaining Round of 16.

Manchester City were the final team to make it to the hat after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Thursday at the Etihad.

Goals by Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Ake – as well as two assists by Kevin De Bruyne – were enough to overcome the Reds, who equalised twice with Fabio Carvalho and Mohamed Salah.

City were later drawn with Southampton away, while rivals Manchester United got Charlton at home.

Nottingham Forest and Newcastle will travel to Wolves and Leicester respectively to complete the pairings.

The quarter-final fixtures will take place in the week commencing January 9.

  • Howe'ay the lads

Eddie Howe will be licking his lips at the prospect of a semi-final place in the Carabao Cup during his first full season in charge.

However, they have to overcome a Leicester team that have started to pick up wins when it matters.

James Maddison, who was subject of interest to Newcastle, will be looking to show them what they missed out on in the summer.

  • Manchester derby avoided

We could still see Manchester United face their bitter rivals Man City in the Carabao Cup.

But it will not be in the quarter-finals.

The Citizen's will travel to Southampton, with United hosting Charlton.

Both sides will be strong favourites to make it to the last-4, where we could see them come up against each other over two legs.

  • Psychological advantage?

Could Nottingham Forest or Wolves take a psychological advantage from their Carabao Cup quarter-final?

The two sides come up against each other with a place in the last-4 at stake and they are also battling against each other for Premier League survival.

Perhaps victory in the cup could provide them an upper hand when it comes to staying in the top flight.

  • Dream draw for Charlton

The Addicks will have been eyeing up a trip to Old Trafford after they beat Brighton.

Dean Holden will be licking his lips at the chance to test himself against Erik ten Hag.

Maybe, just maybe, the League One strugglers have what it takes to pull off a historic upset in the Carabao Cup.

They've come this far, so why not?

  • Pep Guardiola: Rico Lewis is MY defender for the next 10 years

While we wait for the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw, Pep Guardiola has been speaking.

The Spaniard has heaped praise upon Rico Lewis, stating that he is going to be a top defender for Manchester City for "the next 10 years".

The highest of praise for the 18-year-old.

What were you doing at his age? Not being praised to the heavens by Guardiola, that's for sure!

  • Carabao Cup delay

Seems like we have some extra delay on the Carabao Cup draw.

Should get things started very soon...

  • Carabao Cup draw NEXT

Just five more minutes to go until the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw.

Manchester City were the final team to make the hat alongside other six Premier League teams.

They are all joined by Charlton who eliminated Brighton!

  • Edging closer...

Less than 10 minutes to find out who plays who in the next round.

Sky Sports are preparing for the draw and fans around the country are gathering around their televisions.

From Tyneside to south east London, the nerves are starting to kick in.

Final warning to make yourself a cup of tea, gather the family for the big moment football fans.

Who faces who? We find out soon.

  • Ake reacts to Liverpool win

Manchester City ace Nathan Ake admitted there are "things to improve" after a hard fought 3-2 win over Liverpool.

Ake told BBC Radio 5 Live: "The last week has been a bit strange, people coming back at different times then straight into having to play an intense game against Liverpool and it's not easy.

"They have top quality players, we should've done better with the goals but we managed to score more than them. There are things to improve but for the first game back it was good. It was another top, top ball from Kevin [De Bruyne] and I had to score that one.

"You've been away for a month and the national team is different, then suddenly you are straight back in it. Strange but good, as a player you want to be involved in major tournaments like that"

  • Silverware or survival?

Would you rather your side lift a domestic cup and be relegated or sacrifice the silverware for Premier League survival?

This was a question posed to former Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez, who won the FA Cup with the Latics back in 2013 but saw them relegated to the Championship.

They have failed to get back to the top flight since, but have a historic trophy in their collection

The same question may be asked of Wolves, Southampton and Nottingham Forest - the current bottom three in the Premier League.

They are all into the hat for the quarter-final while league leaders Arsenal are OUT.

But would they rather win the Carabao Cup and sacrifice their league form?

I'm sure if you asked them, they would want both.

  • New owners first trophy?

Newcastle United will be targeting their first bit of silverware under their new owners as they await the quarter-final draw.

They have been ever so impressive in the Premier League this season, but can they end the campaign with silverware?

While impressing in the Premier League, they are unlikely to lift the title - and with no Europe they can afford to focus on the Carabao Cup.

Everybody is talking about the two Manchester sides being favourites for the cup, but do not rule out the Magpies.

They are here to spoil the party.

  • Saints sailed into last-8

Southampton were impressive as they made it into the quarter-final with victory over Lincoln City.

Like Charlton, Nathan Jones has the chance to become a hero for the Saints if he can lead his side into the last-4.

However, they know that they could face Manchester City or Manchester United, the two favourites.

But if they can win in the next round, they will fancy their chances of making an appearance at Wembley in a relegation battling season.

  • Can underdogs Charlton do the impossible?

Charlton Athletic are the lowest ranked side left in the competition, beating Brighton in the previous round.

With caretaker manager Anthony Hayes in the dugout, his Addicks were impressive defensively with youngster Ashley Maynard-Brewer proving himself in net.

They will have their eyes firmly on the quarter-final draw, knowing they are a potential three matches from Wembley.

But what exactly do they want out of this draw? A winnable fixture or the chance to play one of the big boys?

New gaffer Dean Holden will take charge of his side, with Hayes returning to his previous role, and the former Bristol City boss has the chance to become a Charlton legend if he can guide them past the next round and into the last-4.

Next up, they find out who they face.
