Conor McGregor BLOCKS Paul McGrath as row between Irish sporting giants escalates over tweet aimed at PJ Gallagher

CONOR McGREGOR has blocked Paul McGrath after the Irish football legend had called him out publicly for 'bullying' PJ Gallagher.

The bizarre spat initially broke out between McGregor and the comedian when the MMA fighter sent out an abusive message in the early hours of Sunday morning.

In it, he wrote: “@pjgallagher you sad little pox of a thing.

“Sit up and smile for a change will you, you sad c*** hahaha wife left you an (sic) all and your (sic) crying in the paper bout depression, posture like a prawn (laughing emoji).

“Sad b******. I am Ireland. There’s blood on my flag useesoo”.

The insensitive nature of trying to use Gallagher's well-documented mental health trauma against him generated much criticism across the country.

One of those to call it out was McGrath.

He made sure to 'at' both men in a tweet to let them know whose side he was on.

He said: "PJ take no notice of bullies, you’re loved by everyone.

"Whatever you do don’t let him get the better of ya pal. Stay well. Top Man. @pjgallagher @TheNotoriousMMA"

McGregor, who was on a tweeting spree over the whole weekend, quickly fired back at the 63-year-old.

Initially he tried to slag off one of Ireland's most beloved sporting figures by labelling him 'English'.

He then fired back a more in-depth reply, defending his point of view.

"If someone comes at me I am going to fire back.

"What don't you get? I didn't start any of this.

"It was me being bullied originally. Yet you come online to call me a bully.

"Leave me alone. Bullies the lot of ya's! I have mental health too!"

SNOWBALL EFFECT

The whole strange saga stems from McGregor himself being wrongfully labelled British.

An American broadcaster had mistakenly included him in her list of 'Top five British fighters'.

To this, Gallagher quipped: “Normally this kind of thing winds me up but they can have this lad.”

The Radio Nova broadcaster was far from the only person to crack such a gag but given his profile as a public figure, he's clearly the one who's gotten on McGregor's nerves the most for making such a remark.

Gallagher himself took McGregor's derogatory reply in stride as he joked back in response: “Excuse me!

"It took years of hard work and awkward walking to get the posture of a prawn. I am delicious!”
