This is because it was not a competitive race run under IAAF guidelines.
The athlete was helped by a team of 42 rotating pacemakers, and water was given to him by his coaches from a car.
His phenomenal finishing time was 1:59:40 - making it the fastest ever run by a male.
A marathon is run over 26.2 miles - which is 42km.
