Already prices in nearby hotel rooms have rocketed as anticipation builds for the biggest week in the racing calendar.

But this new glamping-style experience has caught the eye of some regular racegoers on social media.

One of them was renowned owner Carl Hinchy, who posted a screenshot of a five-night stay costing £1,800.

The description for a stay at said it had 'four single beds per unit' with 'real mattresses and bed linens (no towels provided)."

A photo of the accommodation showed four single beds packed closely together.

A brief on the property read: "Accompanied by luxury shared toilet and shower blocks, situated at Cheltenham Tigers RFC, a short walk from the racecourse."

In fairness it looked a reasonable option for punters planning a late trip.

But some took exception to the cost.

Hinchy wrote on Twitter: "My God! This makes £8 a pint look good value! Total and utter exploitation!"

He added: "It’s camping with four single beds and a shower shared between four people. This exploitation of racegoers has to stop."

However one person replied saying the cost per person was in line with everything else.

They said: "Not sure where else you’ll get anything close to £450 for a week?"

Another commenting on the cost said: "That's got Fyre festival written all over it.

"Good initiative but why does everything have to be extortionate?"

A fellow Twitter user wrote: "Awful value for money but sadly it is the economic philosophy of supply and demand.

"Festival week accommodation has always been a sellers’ market unfortunately, and with the increased popularity it’s only going one way."

On the official StayLets website it says the accommodation also featured central heating, guarded parking and a restaurant.

It adds: "The mixture of twin, double and quad cabin rooms are fully insulated with heating and electrical installation.

"All rooms feature comfortable beds with soft linens, hanging rails, storage unit, mirror and bedside lamp.

"The village is laid out with easy access to quality shower and toilet facilities which are cleaned on a daily basis."
