How Arsenal could line up with Mykhaylo Mudryk but no Gabriel Jesus after emergency January transfer

ARSENAL could soon have Mykhaylo Mudryk in their attack - but Mikel Arteta’s side will have to do without Gabriel Jesus when they resume action.

As we reported yesterday, the Gunners are one of a number of Premier League clubs chasing the Ukrainian star, 21, who is valued at £100million.

Eddie Howe's Newcastle have also joined the race for Mudryk.

However, the winger has been publicly discussing the possibility of joining Arsenal ahead of the January window.

Shakhtar concede there is a 50 per cent chance their star man could leave next month.

But they want a similar fee to the £100million Manchester City paid to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Though there is a hope from English clubs that they will accept a much lower figure.

That could see Arsenal swoop for him to bolster their Premier League title charge, although a striker could also be on the agenda.

Brazil striker Jesus, 25, will be out for two to three months after injuring his right knee in his nation’s final group game against Cameroon.

That came as a major blow to Arsenal, who are five points clear at the top, but who only have the inexperienced Eddie Nketiah, 23, as a back-up striker.

Captain Granit Xhaka has already spoken of his confidence in the former England U21 international, although fans want to see fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli move from the wing to play centrally.

And Mudryk’s arrival could free him up to do just that as the North London club look to continue their table-topping exploits.

That could see Arsenal start Mudryk on the left with England World Cup star Bukayo Saka down the right.

They would then be expected to find the ammunition for Martinelli.

And with Martin Odegaard behind them, you would expect the South American to get plenty of opportunities to find the net.

Arsenal are also reportedly set to launch a final transfer bid to sign Youri Tielemans next month.

And if the Leicester City ace also arrives, then Arteta will also have plenty of options in midfield to help put chances on a plate for his attackers.
