Dortmund seemed to struggle in the opening 45 minutes to make an impact and couldn't keep possession in Schalke's half with Franco Di Santo looking dangerous for the away side.

After the break Dortmund started to turn the screw and looked dangerous and all the more likely to take the lead in the match with chances falling to Felix Passlack and Christian Pulisic just in front of the hour mark.
