When did Louis Van Gaal get diagnosed with cancer?

Van Gaal revealed in April 2022, that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

However, he kept the diagnosis from his players during their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The squad was unaware that their boss had been wearing a catheter beneath his attire while orchestrating training sessions.

He told the at the time of his decision: “I think you don’t tell people you work with like that because it might influence their choices, their decisiveness, so I thought they shouldn’t know.

“You don’t die from prostate cancer, at least not in 90% of the cases.

“It is usually other underlying diseases that kill you. But I had a pretty aggressive form, got irradiated 25 times.

"Then you have a lot of management to do in order to get through life.”
