Portugal pair Danilo and Nuno Mendes to leave World Cup 2022 squad for treatment on injuries
PORTUGAL have suffered a huge injury blow ahead of their World Cup quarter-final.
Fernando Santos’ side are in top form after thrashing Switzerland 6-1 in the last of the round of 16 clashes.
Goncalo Ramos scored a brilliant hat-trick after coming into the XI for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Now they are preparing to face Morocco, who are still on cloud nine after their epic penalty shootout win over Spain, in the quarters on Saturday.
However, Santos has been rocked by the news that two of his stars are leaving Qatar to undergo treatment for injuries suffered at the World Cup.
Paris Saint-Germain team-mates Danilo and Nuno Mendes had both hoped to remain in the Portugal camp for the duration of the tournament.

However, PSG have now decided that they want the duo to return to the club and be treated by their own staff.
Now claims that Portugal chiefs have agreed to the request "after several days of back-and-forth" between the two camps.
Danilo and Mendes will both be needed by PSG for their Champions League last-16 showdown with Bayern Munich on February 14.
And the Ligue 1 title holders are desperate to get the pair over their injury setbacks before then.

Danilo, who can play in both defence and midfield, has only featured in the 3-2 win over Ghana in the group stage.
He is suffering with a rib injury.
Nuno Mendes' only outing at the showpiece also came in the group stages when he started in the 2-0 triumph over Uruguay.
But his night was cut short as he was forced off moments before the break with a thigh problem.
