And it means any big-money move for West Ham star Rice is more likely to take place at the end of the season.
Gunners 'could recall Oviedo'
Arsenal might bring winger Marcelo Flores back early from his loan at Real Oviedo.
The Mexico starlet, 19, has struggled for game-time in Spain.

Leicester City plus German giants Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen are thought to be interested.
Everton as well as Nottingham Forest were previously linked with the former Weymouth loanee.

Kane faces D-Day in the summerShay Given reckons this summer could be the ultimate decision time for Harry Kane.
The Tottenham striker and England skipper, 29, has been linked to both Manchester giants over the past two seasons.
And Ireland legend Given believes Kane might need to move on to fulfil his dreams of winning silverware.
Former Newcastle and Aston Villa keeper told : "You feel it’s now or never for Harry Kane.
"Will he move in the summer? He’s such a brilliant player and he continues to break records – he’s got Alan Shearer’s 260 goals in his sights now – but you feel he’s a player who wants to be winning Premier League titles and be involved in Champions League finals on a regular basis.
"Can Tottenham and Antonio Conte and the board give him those reassurances? I don’t know. I just don’t see it at the minute.
"He’s got one career – he doesn’t want to look back in 10 years’ time and think 'I should have pushed for that move'.
"I think part of him will have regret that he’s not currently at (Manchester) City and getting the chances that Erling Haaland is sticking away on a weekly basis."
Gunners agree £27m Leandro fee
Arsenal have agreed a £27million fee for Brighton forward Leandro Trossard after missing out on top target Mykhailo Mudryk, writes MARK IRWIN.
And the 28-year-old Belgian World Cup star is set to undergo a medical after agreeing personal terms with the Premier League leaders.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has moved quickly to reinforce his squad after months of negotiations for Mudryk were wrecked by Chelsea’s £88million swoop for the Shakhtar Donetsk winger.
And he is convinced that Trossard can be a cut-price alternative to help his title contenders over the line.
Official talks with Brighton were only opened this week but progressed rapidly when it became clear that the south coast club were ready to sell this season’s seven-goal top scorer.
Trossard only had six months of Amex contract to run and although Brighton had the option to extend that deal for a further 12 months they decided to cash in on a player who had fallen out with new boss Roberto De Zebri. And while Arsenal’s initial bid of £20million was rebuffed, they came straight back with an improved offer which matched Brighton’s valuation.

Chelsea trio, Hakim Ziyech, Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are on their radar.
Everton starlet Anthony Gordon remains on the list, despite the Toffees rejecting a £60m offer from Chelsea for his services.
However, with the looming threat of relegation, Everton may soon be forced into a sale.
James Maddison is another star the club have retained an interest in, while Leicester team-mate Tielemans has emerged as a target with his contract expiring in the summer.
Wolves captain Ruben Neves is another candidate, but Manchester United and Liverpool are thought to be monitoring the situation too.
McTominay is another possibility but it's not sure if Old Trafford chief Erik ten Hag would sell to a rival for a Champions League spot.
Henderson out for five weeks
Nottingham Forest keeper Dean Henderson has been ruled out for five weeks with a thigh injury.
Henderson has put together a raft of stunning performances between the sticks at the City Ground ever since Manchester Untied loaned him out last summer.
But Forest manager Steve Cooper confirmed his No1 will be sidelined for "four to five weeks".
The England international suffered the injury during last week's 2-0 win over Leicester.
Cooper said: "It is certainly a discussion point.
"We have two League Cup games [against United] that Dean wouldn't have played in anyway because of the loan ruling so we were always planning without him for those games.
"We need to get this weekend out of the way and see where we're at after that.
"Dean is going to be out for four to five weeks, which is obviously a blow for all of us, especially him, but these things happen and we carry on with our work and will support Dean to get fit as quickly as possible."

Weghorst can be 'focal point'
Wout Weghorst is a "short term solution" who could turn into a "good story".
That's Mikael Silvestre's verdict on Manchester United's new loan striker.
The Ex-Red Devils, Arsenal and France defender also believes Holland star Weghorst might be United's only January recruit.
Silvestre told : “I think all positions are covered now, so I don’t expect more to happen from Man United in the transfer window unless they are going to face an injury.”
“Their team is quite balanced with good competition in every position.
"I definitely think that Wout Weghorst can become a good focal point for Man United and he is also a very good finisher.”
“Of course, it is a short term solution but the schedule is insane, so he can end up being a very good story for Man United.”

Mudryk snub 'no big deal'
Mikel Silvestre believes Arsenal might be better off WITHOUT Mykhailo Mudryk.
Chelsea won the race for Shakhtar Donetsk's Ukraine winger.
But former Gunners and Manchester United defender Silvestre told : “To be honest, I don’t think that’s a blow.
"Because when a player shows motivation to sign for your club and he ends up going to the neighbour, it shows you that maybe he wasn’t the right fit for you because you want players who are fully committed.”
Silvestre is sure manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu only want to recruit players whose commitment matches their ability as they bid to keep Arsenal top of the Premier League.
He said: "They must be looking at this story and saying we didn’t sign him but in the end it might be beneficial for us because we want players who 100 percent want to join us.”
Costly Ram raid
Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle could battle for £100million-rated Benfica star Goncalo Ramos this summer.
But Ramos seems certain to stay with his home-country club in January.

Former Chelsea boss Tuchel is keen on returning to London after being sacked earlier this season.
But Tottenham would prioritise a return for fan favourite Poch before another ex-manager of their London rivals.

Ilkay Gundogan has reportedly agreed to join Barcelona on a free transfer this summer.

Bellingham ‘in talks with Liverpool’
Jude Bellingham is reportedly in talks to join Liverpool.
And the message has already been relayed to negotiators at Real Madrid.
It is now setting up a two-way fight for the England star next summer.
But Borussia Dortmund will likely demand a huge fee in excess of £100million.
Sterling tipped for Arsenal move
John Barnes reckons Raheem Sterling could ditch Chelsea for a move to Arsenal.
He told : "I don't think Raheem Sterling will go back to Man City despite the rumours of him wanting to leave.
"If Arsenal were interested in Sterling and guaranteed him to play in the first team every week, then maybe that is the best decision for Sterling to make.
"If Sterling did go to Arsenal, who would he replace? He does not walk into that team, he has to decide to go to a team who will play him consistently."
United urged to sign Kane
Former Man Utd striker Alan Smith has urged his old side to land Tottenham star and England captain Harry Kane.
