Sunderland boss David Moyes charged with misconduct after red card during 1-0 defeat at Southampton
Moyes was sent to the stands for 'abusing language towards an official' as Black Cats bowed out of the EFL Cup at St Mary's
DAVID MOYES has been charged with misconduct after being sent to the stands during Sunderland's 1-0 defeat at Southampton.
A rejected penalty appeal was too much to bear for the basement boss as he received a red card for his protests.
The FA charge says it is alleged that 'Moyes used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official'.
Referee Chris Kavanagh waved away Victor Anichebe's 90th minute appeal, which prompted a foul-mouthed rant from Moyes towards 4th official Paul Adcock.
A superb curling strike from Sofiane Boufal won the game for Southampton in the 66th minute.
And Moyes suffered greater humiliation after the match in when he admitted in an interview that he had no idea who the referee was.
He was asked: "What did [referee] Chris Kavanagh say to you?"
Moyes replied: " I don't know who Chris Kavanagh is."
Sunderland's season doesn't get any easier on Saturday when they take on Arsenal at the Stadium of Light.
While Moyes' men are bottom on just 2 points, the Gunners are in 2nd place, only trailing leaders Man City on goal difference.
