THREE Lions fans across the country had plenty to roar about as Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden secured England's 3-0 win against Wales in their historic World Cup clash.

Drinkers packed in pubs went wild as Gareth Southgate's men cruised to the top spot in Group B and a second-round clash against Senegal this Sunday.

It was the first time two UK teams had ever met in a World Cup finals - with the game dubbed the "Battle of Britain".

England fans adorned in flags and themed bucket hats threw their pints in the air as they celebrated three stunning goals in the second half.

But there were miserable scenes in Wales as Rob Page's men got knocked out - with fans hanging their heads and looking dejected.

After a scrappy, goalless start, the deadlock was broken when Rashford thundered home a 25-yard free-kick just moments into the second half.

Foden then made it two just a minute later as he slotted home a sublime Harry Kane cross.

Rashford then scored his second to kill off any hopes Wales may have had of an unlikely comeback.

Wales had held off a dominant England in a cagey first-half, but having lost talisman Gareth Bale to injury at half-time, they were blown away by three quickfire goals.

Fans roared into the night at fan parks in London, Newcastle and Manchester while lone Wales supporters drowned their sorrows.

Sozzled crowds face hangovers first thing on Wednesday morning but few seemed to care as they lashed pints at each other.

But while England fans celebrated, Wales supporters were seen looking fed-up as Page's side went further and further behind.

The Dragons have gone crashing out of the tournament, while the USA sailed through to the next round alongside England from Group B after beating Iran 1-0.

The two goals in rapid time from Rashford and Foden early in the second half sent the crowd wild at the fan zone in Times Square.

Musician Charlie Philp, 28, from Newcastle, said: "It wasn't great in the first half but the second was much better tactically.

"The atmosphere was great, especially with all of the students here, it was like a party."

Fans chanted "Southgate you're the one" and "It's Coming Home" as dreams of a first World Cup since 1966 are well and truly alive.

Melissa Henderson, a 26-year-old paralegal, added: "I work at 9am but it's the World Cup and that doesn't come around very often.

"You have to enjoy the wins. It was a great buzz and once that first goal went in you knew we were going to win.

"The atmosphere has been really good and it's great to see people come together."

In the first half, Man City star Foden had offered Three Lions fans one of the best chances of the first half when he blazed over after a great run from Jude Bellingham.

Before Marcus Rashford tried an acrobatic scissor kick that went well wide moments later.

Foden left another chance begging shortly after when he fired a shot wide of the net England won a free kick following a Neco Williams handball.

Savvy Brits have already planned for their sore heads tomorrow with annual leave up 12 per cent.

Meanwhile in Qatar, 8,000 Three Lions fans watched the game live alongside 6,000 from Wales.

England have not lost to Wales since 1984 and are unbeaten in the last six meetings between the two nations.

They last came head-to-head in an official tournament at Euro 2016 when the Three Lions beat the Dragons 2-1.
