‘I let Cristiano Ronaldo play wherever he wanted!’ – Carlo Ancelotti opens up about his time at Real Madrid
Ancelotti led the Galacticos to their famous 10th Champions League triumph... by doing whatever the Portugal captain said
CRISTIANO RONALDO was allowed to play where he wanted under Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, the Italian boss has admitted.
The man who led the Galacticos to their famous Decima told the Daily Mail that he would only pick the rest of the team after Ronaldo had decided what position he wanted to play in.
Ancelotti said: "At Real Madrid, Ronaldo was the most important player and I had to listen where he preferred to play and after that try to adapt.
However he said that this didn't cause any trouble because Ronaldo's favoured position on left allowed Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema to star in Real Madrid's famous 'BBC' front three.
The Italian added: "It was not so difficult because Ronaldo liked to play on the left side, Benzema was a fantastic striker and Bale on the right - I think it was good."
Ancelotti, now at Bayern Munich, wants the German champions to repeat the treble achieved by under Jupp Heynckes in 2013.
He said: "We want to win the Bundesliga, we want to win the DFB-Pokal and Champions League.
"I think that the goal in the Champions League is that we want to be ready in April.
We must be competitive, physically good, and focused on the little details. To win the Champions League, you must have everything."
Pep Guardiola arrived in Munich to a huge fanfare but, despite easily winning three league titles, was unable to repeat Heynckes' Champions League triumph before moving to Man City this summer.
