After finding his feet at Brighton, Caicedo flourished into a regular in their midfield and has thrived so far this season.

His performances have not gone unnoticed and along with interest from big Premier League clubs, Real Madrid are also believed to be eyeing him up.

report that he is one of an elite group of players the club are looking at as a long-term replacement for Modric.

While the 37-year-old remains a quality player, he is in the twilight of his career and Real Madrid are building their midfield for the next generation.

Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have already been drafted in as part of Madrid's mission to bring in the best midfield talents.

Caicedo could be the next piece of the puzzle and has reportedly been identified by club president Florentino Perez as a potential recruit.

Los Blancos have been left impressed with the Ecuadorian's agility, guile, passing ability, technical quality and physique.

But Brighton are believed to have slapped a £68m price tag on the star, potentially deterring bigger clubs from swooping.

The other names on Real's Modric replacement list include Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes and Dortmund and England ace Jude Bellingham.

He still has three years left on his current deal after his 2021 move from Independiente del Valle.

But he is reported as only earning £10,000-a-week, which would make him one of Brighton's lowest earners.

Graham Potter was believed to be keen to offer bumper new terms of around £60,000 to reflect his growing value to the team before the manager departed for Chelsea.
