Marsch full of praise for 'underrated' Arteta
Jesse Marsch has been very complimentary of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta in the lead up to today’s match-up, labelling him “the most underrated manager in the league”.
Marsch continued: “What an incredible job. The team is complex, stable, exciting to watch… amazing job. We are confident at Elland Road that we can play how we want but Arsenal are very good. We know we have to be at our best against such an opponent.”
The American went on to state that the Gunners were capable of going all the way and winning the title. When asked if they could do it, he said: “You would have to say yes. They look very strong and have played against good opponents. We know they’re a good team with quality. I like it when they improve and grow together. That’s happened here too.”
The stage is set
There's blue skies in West Yorkshire ahead of kick-off.
This is Arsenal's 5th match in just 16 days.
Familiar faces
Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seamen is in attendance for today’s game.
Seamen, capped 75 times for England, started his career at Leeds United before joining Arsenal in 1990 where he went on to make 405 appearances.
He will hope Arsenal can go on to lift the Premier League title this season, just like he did, three times in his career.
Jesus a doubt
Gabriel Jesus hobbled off late in the day at Anfield after a clash of heads with Kostas Tsimikas.
He didn’t travel with the squad for their midweek Europa League game, but Arteta insisted it was just precautionary:
The Spaniard said on Thursday: “I don’t know, obviously he has some discomfort after the game against Liverpool. That’s why we decided not to bring him to Norway, so let’s see how he is tomorrow and Saturday.”
Jesus has been in excellent form since signing from Manchester City in the summer, with fans attributing much of Arsenal’s recent success to his arrival.
Should he miss out, Eddie Nketiah looks likely to get the nod up front.
Mohamed Elneny, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Emile Smith-Rowe are all major doubts for today's game.
Good afternoon from Elland Road
Hello football fans and welcome to coverage of today’s Premier League clash between fifteenth placed Leeds and league leaders Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta will be hoping to continue his side’s extraordinary start to the season with another three points today.
A scrappy 1-0 win against Bodo/Glimt in the week extends Arsenal’s winning run to six games.
A 3-2 victory over Liverpool last weekend will have sent Arsenal fans into frenzy, filling them with confidence ahead of their trip up North.
Since their 3-0 scalp of Chelsea in August, Leeds are yet to win in the Premier League, picking up just two points from their last five games.
However, the Gunners might not have it all their own way this afternoon. Elland Road has been a fortress for The Peacocks this season with the West Yorkshire side unbeaten here since the start of the campaign.
Although Leeds fans will have to ark their minds back to 2003 when they last recorded a victory against the Gunners.
The action is scheduled for 14:00 and we will bring you confirmation of both teams shortly as we build up to kick-off.
