‘It’s been a horrible time and I’m truly sorry’ – Robbie Dunne releases statement on Bryony Frost bullying saga

ROBBIE DUNNE says he is 'truly sorry' about the Bryony Frost bullying saga.

The jockey returned from his 10-month ban with a winner on his first ride at Hereford on Tuesday.

He refused to speak to reporters after the success aboard well-backed 6-4 favourite Ernesto, who is trained by his old pal Ian Williams.

But he released a statement later that evening, expressing his wish for a ";long line" to be drawn under the incident.

There was no specific mention of Frost in his statement.

And he only apologised for the "incident at Southwell", when he was found to have bullied Frost at several race meetings over a sustained period of time.

It was at Southwell on September 3 2020, after Dunne confronted Frost and told her he was going to "put her through the wing" of a fence, that she decided to report him to the authorities.

Dunne's statement read: “It has been a horrible time for all parties involved and I am truly sorry for the unfortunate incident at Southwell.

"But it is time to draw a long line under it all and leave the past where it belongs.

“I just want to get on with my riding career now and support my fiance Katie, who has supported me through some traumatic times, and my lovely young daughter Ava-Mae as she is very important to both of us.

“I have to also thank everyone for their backing through this in the industry and outside of the racing bubble.

"They all know the real Robbie Dunne and it is not the one that has sometimes been portrayed in certain parts of the media.

“A vast number of owners and trainers up and down the country have stuck by me through what have been obviously very difficult circumstances and I will do my utmost to repay that very important support and trust.

“I want to be the best individual and jockey I possibly can be, so my riding is going to do all the talking from now on.”

Dunne, 37, was banned in December last year for 18 months for bullying and harassing Frost.

The disciplinary hearing gained widespread media attention and the British Horseracing Authority have since introduced a new code of conduct.

Dunne had his ban slashed by eight months on appeal - meaning he now has the entire jumps season ahead of him to try and rebuild his career.
