Usyk considering dropping down to cruiserweight after Joshua wins as he struggles to maintain ‘giant’ heavyweight body

OLEKSANDR USYK is considering dropping back down to cruiserweight after his back-to-back wins over Anthony Joshua.

Usyk defeated Joshua in London last year via unanimous decision and overcame the British superstar again in August via split decision.

The Ukrainian star now claims he wants a new challenge and is keen to return to the cruiserweight division to pursue more world titles.

The 35-year-old is also struggling to maintain his giant figure due to the gruelling training camps he undergoes as a heavyweight.

Usyk told Parimatch: “I was thinking about returning to cruiserweight and getting a few more of the world belts.

“You know, being a heavyweight means you have to be really heavy. You must eat a lot.

"It’s not hard to fight with these giants, but it’s really hard to eat all the time.”

Usyk added: "And now I work much more than I did as a cruiserweight, particularly in the training camps.

“I had to swim ten kilometers and train hard. At this moment I just want to stop and take a rest.

“A half of a year of training is hard work. I didn’t see my family for such a long time, I didn’t see my wife, children or anyone.”

Usyk started his boxing career as a cruiserweight and picked up some major wins over notable opponents, such as Tony Bellew.

Nevertheless, the undefeated heavyweight has recently been linked with an undisputed title showdown against Tyson Fury.

However, the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF heavyweight champion ruled himself out until next year.
