  • Benn mistake

Boxing expert Gareth A. Davies believes Conor Benn may have taken banned substance clomifene by mistake.

“It is a booster for testosterone. It can increase testosterone in a male to help increase pregnancy, and you can take it in tablet form. He might have taken it by mistake,” he told talkSPORT.

“If it’s a contaminated supplement that he’s taken, if he’s taken supplements. If he’s taking supplements and he’s keeping records of the jars and all those kinds of things. If he isn’t a cheat, he can prove it. If he is a cheat, then he’s a cheat, and we have to accept it.

“There’s a theory in the bodybuilders that it’s a masking agent. There are so many theories. If he takes a four-year ban because of it, he takes a four-year ban. If he’s cheated, he’s cheated. If he hasn’t proven, he hasn’t. It’s as simple as that."

"It stinks a little bit, well it f*****g massively stinks to high heaven because it’s what he’s been copped on – it is what it is. It doesn’t look like there is any way to explain that to me.

"If it wasn’t down to him, whoever’s done it, they need dealing with appropriately because that’s cost a lot of people a lot of money, put a lot of people at risk, put Chris Eubank at risk potentially.”

“I love my son and I know he don’t cut no corners, he just goes straight at it 100 per cent, but we’ll keep you informed and we’ll let you know what the next step is.

  • 'We could be ready tomorrow'

Eddie Hearn is adamant that Conor Benn’s fight with Chris Eubank Jr is merely postponed, rather than cancelled, and insists that he could put on the Battle of Britain ‘tomorrow’.

He told iFL TV: “We could put this fight on tomorrow, next week, the week after, the week after that. We could have put it on at the O2 on Saturday.

“But to put this fight on this week, we’d be in the same position so that’s not going to happen. What we’ve got to do is move at speed here and we want answers from various different people.

“But we want a procedural answer from the people who ultimately wouldn’t sanction this fight as well to say ‘I get it we listen to what you say’, but ‘what now?”

“That right time is, I don’t know, two weeks, a month, six months, a year? That will be determined by what comes out over the coming days and weeks because there has to be a strategy and a plan and he’ll want his case to be heard.”

  • Hearn wants to go again

Eddie Hearn is still adamant that Conor Benn’s fight with Chris Eubank Jr is merely postponed, rather than cancelled, and insists that he could put on the Battle of Britain ‘tomorrow’.

  • Good morning boxing fans!

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn has been “one of boxing‘s darkest weeks,” claims Frank Warren.

The boxing promoter said: “We have had terrible tragedies in the sport, but this has really been one of boxing’s darkest weeks.

“Ultimately, boxing is a dangerous sport, but it is paramount that we should always maximise safety of the boxers in the ring. Managers, promoters, and the BBBofC are there to protect these brave men, sometimes from themselves.

“The boxers wanted to go ahead presumably for financial reasons. Thankfully the board stopped this from happening.

“They can argue legal cases all they want but there is no case to be had here. The fact of the matter is that Benn provided a sample which came back positive for a banned substance.

“The tests were carried out by VADA, a body athletes voluntarily enrol in and which, in this case all parties agreed to, paid and contracted with. The only reason now that they are disputing the findings is obvious.

“The reason why Benn hasn’t been suspended is because the VADA don’t and cannot call a hearing, they take tests and inform the parties of the results."

The heavily-anticipated fight was called off on Thursday after Benn failed a drugs test, shocking the boxing world just two days before the catchweight bout.

Hearn said: "At that point (after board called off the fight) we are faced with the situation of actually, the board’s decision can be legally challenged and we will win based on precedent, based on the board rules, or we have a decision to use a different commission which is the easiest thing to do.

"We could’ve gone ahead with this fight with 3-4 commissions that were willing to stage this fight.

"We did not appear in court as I read somewhere. We spoke to our lawyers, our lawyers said to us we believe you will win an arbitration to move forward with this fight and it was decided not to ultimately.

Frank Warren claims Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr “needed protecting from themselves” after Saturday’s fight was called off in “one of boxing’s darkest weeks”.

“Benn tested positive for a banned substance, but they still tried to plough on with a fight despite the obvious dangers involved and ironically the fathers each being both been involved in ring tragedies previously.

“The board rightly made the correct decision, but it begs the question that when all parties where notified on September 23 why this dragged on without the B Sample being tested in that time?
