Ex-United right back tells the story of when two Liverpool fans took to burying their teams scarf under his pool
GARY NEVILLE wants the Liverpool scarf that was buried under his swimming pool burned if it is ever found.
The former Manchester United right-back is even willing to write the request in to his will to ensure that nothing of any relevance to his rival club is ever associated with him.
''The story goes the brothers buried a Liverpool scarf underneath the tiles of my swimming pool. It's something that's never been proven and probably never will be.'
''I don't even live in that house any more, but I'm going to put it in my will that if anybody ever finds that bloody scarf, they must follow my final wish — burn it.''
Neville used to go to war with Liverpool alongside the likes of Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand and was forever on edge in order to be fully committed in beating the Merseysiders.
The ex-Valencia manager has even in the past expressed his hate for Liverpool although admitting in his retirement that has mellowed some what but he is still eager for his old club to win tonight in order to stay in the race for the Premier League title.
Neville's infamous celebration in front of Liverpool fans in 2006 is still a topic regularly bought up when football discussions head down the road of Liverpool vs Man United.
Neville said: ''Whenever I'm asked if I'm sorry for celebrating in front of the Liverpool fans back in 2006, my answer is the same every time: of course not.''
''Football is about emotions. Humour, disappointment, anxiety, sheer joy, sheer sadness. It's all of the emotions you experience at different points throughout the week, but it's jammed into 90 minutes. To me, the beauty of football is that roller coaster. Very few things in life will make you feel like that.''
The rivalry really took speed when the arrival of Sir Alex Ferguson meant that soon after Manchester United were sweeping domestic football of all its honours and rapidly approaching Liverpool's sacred untouched 18 titles.
United surpassed that magic number becoming the club to have become champions the most times in 2011 with their 19th title which they added to two years later in Ferguson's last season at the club.
